SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE BY 2030 - IMPACT ON CLIMATE

Global climate change influences all aspects of our daily lives, and it will for many years to come. The challenge for each individual is to not only identify the risks but also adapt and mitigate the effects to ensure a future for all on planet Earth. Although not all effects of climate change may turn out negative, most sectors will need to find ways to deal with the effects.

IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

By 2030, 9 out of 10 of the major crops will experience reduced or stagnant growth rates, while average prices will increase dramatically as a result, at least in part, due to climate change.

ENERGY DEMAND

Energy demand is expected to increase as much as 50%, driven mostly by developing world demand. More crops are likely to be managed for use as biofuels, doubling or even tripling as a proportion of total use.

FARM LAND USE EFFICIENCY

Through 2030, farm land use efficiency will need to improve showing how modern agricultural practices are making the most of what land resources we have. While per capita availability of farm land continues to drop, per capita consumption rises in both developed and developing countries.

WORLD BIODIVERSITY

By 2030, around 10% of today's biodiversity will be lost (based on 2000 levels), largely due to expanding infrastructure and agriculture as well as climate change.

AGRICULTURAL MITIGATION POTENTIAL

By 2030 agriculture's carbon mitigation potential could reach as much as 7.5% of total global emissions, depending on the price of carbon and adoption of agricultural productivity measures.A
